First edition of William Whiston’s most significant theological work, self-published shortly after his expulsion from Cambridge for his anti-Trinitarian views. The book presents Whiston’s controversial argument for restoring primitive (Apostolic) Christianity, drawing upon early Church documents including the Epistles of Ignatius and the Apostolic Constitutions.
In four parts, the work critiques mainstream Christian doctrine and proposes a version of Christianity rooted in pre-Nicene theology. It became foundational for later Unitarian, Arian, and Restorationist thinkers.
Title: Primitive Christianity Reviv’d, in Four Parts. Containing, Part I. The Larger Epistles of Ignatius. Part II. The Apostolical Constitutions. Part III. An Essay on those Constitutions. Part IV. An Account of the Primitive Faith concerning the Trinity and Incarnation.
