Steinway & Sons Model OR (Duo-Art) (S/N 228B17), a 76" (6'4) mahogany grand piano with Aeolian Duo-Art reproducing system dating to approximately 1924, and a small collection of Q.R.S player piano music rolls.

The Maker, Steinway & Sons, founded in 1853 by Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg in Manhattan, New York, is universally regarded as the pinnacle of piano manufacturing. This 1924 Model OR was built at the Steinway factory in Astoria, Queens, during the company's golden age of craftsmanship. The "OR" designation indicates it left the factory equipped with the Aeolian Duo Art reproducing system-not a standard player piano, but a sophisticated expression-reproducing instrument capable of playing back recorded performances with full dynamics, articulation, and pedaling. The Duo-Art system captured performances by some of the 20th century's greatest pianists, including Ignacy Jan Paderewski, George Gershwin, Maurice Ravel, Sergei Prokofiev, Igor Stravinsky, and Josef Hofmann. The player system on this instrument was rebuilt in 1999 by Craig Brougher of Complete Piano Services, an internationally recognized authority on pneumatic piano restoration with over 55 years of experience and 621+ published articles in the field. See the photos for the complete third-party inspection report. Dimensions: 39.5" H x 59.25" W x 76" D.
