From “A Journey to St. Petersburg & Moscow," Heath’s Picturesque Annual for 1836

This is a complete group of five original 19th-century steel engravings drawn by Alfred Gomersal Vickers (British, 1810–1837) and engraved by Henry Jorden (active 1829–1838). These finely detailed plates were printed by John Hadden & Co. (London) and published in 1836 as part of the first edition of Heath’s Picturesque Annual.

Titles included:

  1. The Holy Gate and Walls of the Kremlin, Moscow

  2. View of the Kremlin from the Right Bank of the Moskva, Moscow

  3. The Smolnoi Church on the Fontanka Canal, St. Petersburg

  4. The Palace Square, Moscow

  5. The Column of Alexander, St. Petersburg

Each engraving measures approx. 10.5 x 8 inches including margins (image areas roughly 7.5 x 5 inches), printed on heavy wove paper.

Condition

Good for age and use. Light foxing to margins; all plates remain crisp, clean, and well-preserved with excellent detail. Suitable for framing. Stored flat, not mounted or trimmed. See pictures.

Item pickup is Thursday, February 5th from 2pm to 6pm in Kansas City, MO 64105. Winning bidders will need to sign up for a pickup appointment time. Winning bidders will receive the full address on their invoice. Brown Button contracts with a third party mover to provide a delivery option for our bidders.
