Native American black-on-black pottery vessels are made using a historic technique famously refined and popularized by artists at the San Ildefonso Pueblo and Santa Clara Pueblo in New Mexico. The traditional method uses a polished slop layer and matte painted geometric designs before firing in a reduction atmosphere to turn the clay black.
