A fine press edition of Philobiblon, the celebrated 14th-century treatise on the love of books by Richard de Bury, Bishop of Durham. This 1938 printing, limited to 300 copies, was designed and printed by master printer John Henry Nash for the Book Club of California, one of the premier bibliophile societies in the United States.

  • Quarter linen over blue paper boards
  • Gilt-stamped bishop’s crest on cover
  • Printed in red and black with hand-illuminated style initials and ornamental devices
  • Hand-set in a classical serif typeface on laid paper
  • Numbered copy 229 of 300
  • Colophon dated December 5, 1938

Condition

Very good. Mild edge wear and toning to endpapers. Binding firm. Includes bookplate and previous catalog references inside the front cover. See pictures.
