Gary Sutton (b. 1944, Kansas City, Missouri) is an American photographer and longtime educator, celebrated for his innovative explorations of time, place, and montage. He joined the faculty at the Kansas City Art Institute in 1975 and has maintained an active studio practice while mentoring generations of students. Sutton has been honored with awards from the Society of Contemporary Photography, a MIAA-NEA Photography Fellowship, and a Fulbright Grant. His commercial and fine art work has appeared in Artforum, Art in America, Ceramics Monthly, and American Crafts Magazine, among others. His photographs are held in collections such as the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
