Holloway was raised in Columbia, Missouri, and moved to Kansas City in his teens. His interest in art took root at Westport High School under teacher Shelton Wilhite, and he trained in the commercial art department at Western Auto while still a student. After a successful career as an award-winning advertising art director, including a term as president of the Kansas City Art Director’s Club and a partnership at Avery Reel Holloway McDonald, he opened the Bob Holloway Studio and Gallery, a fixture of Old Westport housed in a green caboose. Working in a variety of media, most notably pen and ink and oil, he exhibited at art fairs from the early 1950s, spent 26 years at the Country Club Plaza Art Fair, and became a founding member of Art Westport in 1979. From 1988, he exhibited full-time at more than 40 fairs a year across the country. His work hangs around the world and is owned by two former presidents. “Reunion at the Nelson" hangs in the offices of the Nelson Gallery, “Kansas City Connection" was reproduced as a three-story mural near the Kansas City Library, and his painting of the Plaza lights has graced Topsy’s Popcorn’s most popular holiday gift can for more than 50 years
