Baldwin Model R (S/N 84203), a 68″ (5′8″) ebony baby grand dating to approximately 1938. 39" H x 57" W x 68" D. Baldwin Piano Company, founded in 1862 in Cincinnati, Ohio, grew from a retail dealership to America's largest piano manufacturer and won the Grand Prix at the 1900 Paris International Exhibition — the first American piano so honored. This Model R dates to Baldwin's pre-war golden era, featuring a solid spruce soundboard, vertically laminated maple bridge, and sand-cast iron plate. Professional piano movers required.

Overall condition is Good — pinblock tight, action smooth, original ivory key tops intact — a pre-war American grand with solid bones and strong restoration potential. Original ebony; light cosmetic blemishes where varnish has worn, light sun cracking. Three pedals (sustain, sostenuto/middle, una corda); sustain and soft fully functional. Bench included. Pinblock tight — tuning pins hold concert pitch A440. The most critical structural factor on a piano of this vintage, and this one passes decisively.  Action smooth and responsive; all hammers working, no sticking keys. Original ivory key tops intact, no chips. Sustain and soft pedals fully functional. Sand-cast plate intact and clearly stamped; bass bridge intact with seated pins. Very light cosmetic wear for approximately 88 years of service. Bench included. Two soundboard cracks spanning bass to treble, consistent with age and climate exposure over nearly nine decades. Soundboard cracking is common in instruments of this vintage and can be professionally addressed (shimmed and sealed) without compromising structural integrity or tonal quality. Strings show age-appropriate oxidation; tone clarity would benefit from restringing. Currently sitting approximately 15 cents flat —correctable, as the tight pinblock will easily hold A440. Sostenuto (middle pedal) requires trapwork adjustment or felt replacement; rarely used in standard playing and not a significant concern.
