A 1980 Kansas City Royals American League Championship staff ring presented to longtime Royals front office member Joseph “Joe” Grigoli, Director of Season Ticket Sales. The face features the raised Royals script over a vivid blue “Royals” stone, surrounded by raised lettering reading “American League Champions” and “1980.” One shank displays the 1980 World Series design with Royals insignia, while the opposite shank features stadium and baseball imagery with “Grigoli” along the side.
The ring was presented to Joseph Grigoli during his long tenure with the Kansas City Royals organization. Grigoli joined the Royals in 1973, the inaugural year of Royals Stadium, later renamed Kauffman Stadium, and worked in the front office under the leadership of team founder Ewing Kauffman. A beloved member of the Royals staff, Joe thrived in his role at the organization for more than five decades.
The 1980 season marked a major milestone for the Royals, an expansion franchise founded in 1969. Kansas City captured its first American League pennant that year before facing the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series. Though the Royals fell in six games, the 1980 championship set the stage for the club’s eventual World Series victory five years later in 1985.
The ring is 10K gold and weighs approximately 20.1 dwt. The ring has a blue “Royals” stone on the face and is marked “10K Jostens” inside the band.
A strong Kansas City Royals memorabilia piece from the club’s first American League Championship season, with direct staff provenance to Joseph Grigoli and a meaningful connection to the early rise of the franchise.
