A group of three different Lincoln cent collectors' booklets, most of which are filled with pre-1965 pennies. Includes rare pennies like the 1909-S V.D.B. Lincoln Wheat Cent, the 1909-S Lincoln Wheat Cent, the 1914-D Lincoln Wheat Cent, and more. Tallest Dimension: 9" H.
The 1909-S V.D.B. penny is a rare inclusion, as this low-mintage year was the first in which Lincoln's likeness appeared on the penny. Former President Theodore Roosevelt originally ordered the Lincoln penny design to recognize Lincoln as the "Savior of the Union" and to commemorate the man's 100th birthday. When the coin was released, it was almost immediately met with outrage because it included the letters V.D.B., the initials of the penny's designer, Victor David Brenner. Within days of the coin's release, mintage of the V.D.B. model was halted to remove the initials. The San Francisco Mint only produced 484,000 1909-S V.B.S. pennies, making it one of the most sought-after coins. Experts estimate only 50,000 of these pennies remain in the world today.
